I made a prezi demonstrating the inspiration behind my contents page. I also compared my magazine with Kerrang! and NME.

Double Page Spread Work
I know the sizes are more than likely wrong and the proportions aren't right either however I wanted to see how my image would look within a layout and contrasted with a blank page. I think by scattering leaves over to the following page it will blend more therefore flow more within the layout. Im looking forward to working on my page further and feel positive after my first attempt.
Double Page Spread Image
I started working on my image for my double page spread, this is the outcome i came out with for now:
Today's Progress
Today I continued working on my cover page. I now have my dominant images so it was just a case of editing these and putting them onto my cover later adding texts and pull quotes. Editing the photo was quite hard as there were elements I had proposed that I didn't capture in my photos. Things like 'red hair' and dark makeup were almost a necessity therefore a lot of editing from the original image was required. These are my before and after shots:

I then added my final image onto my magazine cover and added pull quotes and sub headings:

Modern Elements
As technology is becoming a necessity in day to day life, especially amongst my target audience, I believe it is crucial to include as many modern conventions in terms of technology as possible whether this be social media to audio links etc. I have decided to use a QR Code in my contents page to give a direct link to a youtube video which not only makes my magazine up to date but includes the target audience and makes my magazine interactive. This makes it more enjoyable for my reader and creates quite a personal touch as they are getting involved.
Click here to go to the site I used to create my code.
I also used my own video and uploaded it to youtube to add a personal touch to my magazine.

Comparison
-
I tried comparing my contents page with Q's contents page to see if mine had a professional look. I think it will look closer to Q's once i add articles and co odernate my text. Although the layout may be different in terms of left and right positioning, the dominant image accompanied by article names parallel to this is the same.
Progress
I worked a lot on my contents page today which included a big re arrange as it came to my intention the image i was using as the main image did not match the dominant image on my cover page therefor seemed inconsistent. I am unsure on the font so this may be my next change along with adding images and more text explaining the articles inside the magazine.

Today's Tasks
Today I intend to finish my front cover bar my main image, this means adding dates pull quotes and various other conventions. I also would like to do more work on my contents page as I am limited what I can do on my cover page without my images.

Reflection
Today I worked on my front cover and started to look at my contents page. oI found this quite challenging as I have not yet taken my images however I used all the other conventions in order to make a start on it. I think it looks okay however I will need to see it combined with my dominant image as I am very conscious of conforming to the genre type. I made a start of my contents page and tried to incorporate social media links etc to appeal to my younger audience.

Male Gaze-Laura Mulvey
When researching further into Laura Mulvey's 'Male Gaze' theory I found the following slide share that I believe explains the theory very well and helped develop my understanding.
The Male Gaze Laura Mulvey from Mr Smith
Applying the 'Male Gaze' to music magazines:
- Focus on figure through comparison of statues
- By comparison the woman is objectified
- Romantic/sexual facial expression
Through the male gaze both men and women are drawn to the magazine, men from a hetrosexual perspective in which they find the woman attractive and from an admiring hetrosexual woman's perspective in which they almost aspire to be like the woman on the cover.
